What is poaching? Poaching is killing animals illegally for trophy hunting, using their skin for clothes or just for boasting about one’s courageous personality. Animals like tigers, rhinos, Indus dolphins and elephants are being poached regularly for their skin or their ivory tusks which can be sold for a very high price. Hence, the Greed of humans has made these magnificent creatures endangered and some are even extinct. We all know that poaching is wrong since animals lose their innocent lives because of it but there are several other reasons for it being very wrong:
Poaching disrupts the food chain because if a tertiary consumer goes extinct the animals that it eats will overpopulate and the suitable ecosystem for each animal will suffer highly.
Poaching has as well been linked to the spread of viral and deadly diseases from wildlife animals to humans, threatening the survival of humanity. Examples include the SARS, Ebola, and the Covid-19 pandemic of 2019-2020 that have caused thousands of deaths. For example, the Covid-19 pandemic started because the usual food web of bats had changed and one specie had started to eat bats but it wasn’t a suitable food source for them.
Poaching also decreases tourist attraction because the media labels any country with high poaching rates to be dangerous and unfit to be visited. This makes the economy of that country suffer
Poachers sometimes get fed up with the guards of national parks and kill them to get easy access to the animals. Hence, Poaching also makes human lives suffer.
I could simply ramble on and on about poaching since i’m an animal enthusiast but I simply do not have enough viewers. Thus, I want all of you to share this blog post so that poaching comes to an end. If even one specie doesn’t go extinct because of you, the world will forever be in debt to you.
